pencils

I used pencils, a brush for blending and a couple of erasers plus the original picture that was taken by my cousin's friend.

This piece took me about three months, because I just couldn't find the time to sit down and actually draw, and to be honest I was kind of frightened to start with the jacket which seemed really complicated! First I was very excited and I finished up with the face and the hair and then I didn't do anything with this piece for about two months. I realized it wasn't going to get done by itself and I decided to do my best to get it done. Once I start drawing I could just sit there for ten hours drawing. Time flies incredibly fast like that! It's so much fun and I really enjoy it.

This drawing was a gift for my cousin, and it was ment to be a surprise, but..I had told my brother, who knew I was drawing this, not to tell the cousin about this. Well, he didn't, but the cousin saw the sketch in my room and made my brother promise him not to tell me that he had seen this. Well, my brother told me because he had promised me first not to tell him. haha! Then when I finally gave the final work to him, he was pretending to be very surprised and I was like I didn't know that he knew. It was really funny, because almost everyone knew about it, but still we pretended like no one knew about it. He still doesn't know that I know that he had seen this before it was done! At least yet.. :D

Sketching Is Like Running Free

2011

When I captured this moment on my phone I felt so glad and happy. I looked at the photograph and I smiled, I showed the photo to the girls and they smiled and giggled. We were at our theatre rehearsal, practising for the upcoming show. So much caring, so much friendship.

About these two sketches..both of them I made of photos of my friends. It's almost ironic because the first one I drew when I was in the US and she was in Finland and the other one I drew after my year in the US when I was back in Finland and he was in the US. I believe they have no idea about these sketches so if you two happen to see your face here, well..yep it is your face hahaha. I love it how I have all these weird funny faces on my phone of people who have wanted to "fatify" or "oldify" their faces. Thank the earth for cameras and such little big joys!

Oh and that man on the background is some man sitting at a coffee shop and his back of the neck looked awesome soo I awkwardly imperceptibly tried to understand its greatness.

Talk And Talk - Don't Speak

Passion for life, passion to live. Honest desire, but lack of strength to deal with it, to find answers.
Should there even be an answer, should it be forgotten.
Living full speed might be an answer, a way to escape. Laugh, cry, smile, shout. Does it give you peace, does it make you satisfied.
Do we blame others for our own misery. Who told you how to have the truth, how to own it.
Everyone talked yet no one spoke. Someone sighed while someone approved. Can't we face ourselves. Could we understand if someone explained.
Could we trust.

Everybody yawn now!

Can't you sleep? Do you feel tired, but your mind just won't let you sleep? Do you want a solution to this all time problem? Open the Internet, write yawning on Google search and look for photos. Scroll down the page and find yourself suddenly yawning. Even a yawning seal will make you yawn. You'll see.

No? You say you didn't yawn? Try again.

Wild Sun

Sun
2013
oil paints

In the last two weeks I have kind of been wondering around, not knowing which way to go with all kinds of things needing to be completed. Today after school I sat down in my room and painted and it felt really good, although I probably should have spent the day studying or doing household chores. Tomorrow sounds like a good day for those things, as always...Sun is a painting that kind of created itself. I took four of my old paintings and painted them all with white primer today as well! Now I have three white pieces of wood waiting for me to do something with them, I like that a lot!

Girl in the picture is a very good friend of mine, and we were fooling around with other friends after school while painting some posters for a bake sale to raise some money for our International Club. I can't remember how it all went, but one of us took two pieces of tape and closed her lips with it. Then a poster with a warrior head was held in front of her, placed so that it looked like their lips were together. Someone captured this moment and later I drew it. I gave this drawing to my art teacher who really inspires me plus she helped us out with the International Club. The warrior head is the mascot of the school where I was studying last year in the US.

When drawing this piece I enjoyed creating the feeling of the different textures. For example the scarf is supposed to look and feel different than the paper or the hand holding the paper. The scarf is soft, light and under the control of the person wearing it, the paper could be ripped in half just by one movement and the hand has its "own will", it's warm and able to hold the paper the way wanted. As I was drawing the leaves on the scarf I often got confused with how they were actually placed on the reference picture, so I had to kind of improvise and not follow the original photograph with total honesty. Below is a picture I took one day when drawing. These pictures may show really small in size, try to click them and they should widen.

Look

See
2012
pencils

This piece is a drawing I have wanted to do for a long time. Since a little kid I've watched Jennifer Lopez's movies and really liked her. She is very beautiful and when I found this picture from the internet I knew that I had to draw a portrait of her.

I did this drawing in the US and when I travelled back to Finland I took it with me. I had placed the drawings I wanted to take with me in my suitcase. When I arrived home and started unpacking a couple days later I found this piece totally ruined - blurry and black. Oh well, I should have placed it tight between two pieces of paper, but it was too late for that.

It took me about six months to do something about the mess. So now it looks almost the same as this original picture here. It was hard to create the same picture again, but it is better now, because you can actually see where the eye and where the eyebrow is.
Although I have watched Jennifer Lopez carefully when watching her movies and I know how she looks like, drawing a portrait of someone somehow brings this person closer and I feel like there is so much in a picture that we can't see or maybe we do see but we don't really realize what we see. We look but we don't see sometimes. (So many see's.) After staring at a picture for more than three hours it would be weird not to find anything new and interesting in it.
